Becoming an Ally

Unlike more visible under-represented groups, student-veterans cannot be readily identified. Likewise, there is no easy method of finding persons supportive of veterans and the military.  The GUVAP strives to provide a way for supportive persons within the University community to prominently identify themselves. The program advances Georgetown University's goal of creating a campus community in which everyone is treated with respect and dignity.  Furthermore, the decal creates the visible network of support for veterans at GU.  See more about the decal and its uses here.

 

A VET Ally:
- Offers support to those who identify as veterans

- Is considerate of veterans experiences without begin invasive
- Becomes familiar with terms, definitions, and military culture important to veterans
- Is intolerant of comments and actions that provoke, demean, ridicule, or trivialize Veterans or their experiences
- Offers connect Veterans in need with relevant resources for support
